Thread: Pz. MK IV L/70

    Re: Pz. MK IV L/70

All good questions, none of which I know the answer too
The outer nuts appear to sit within a recessed ring ,the way that you have illustrated them I wonder if either the nuts are to large or the recession is too narrow,
Take a look at the picture that JM posted above, the one in the swamp. You'll see those details are about right, size and recess and what not. I can tell you those are bolts and there are nuts on the other side of that gear ring though...
If you look at the images (and I'm sure you have) none of them are perfectly in alignment
If you look at Otter's drawing...
you have them perfectly aligned with the radiating spokes
Again, I'll pass the buck to Otter I'll see if I can't figure this but out. Who knows what they were thinking. Why wouldn't you want them to align neatly? Only those over-engineering Germans know

I'm working on the suspension bits now. They're a reall mess of weird details and God knows what all is going on there. I have a really good selections of photos, drawings and CAD 3D of that suspension set-up and it's still doesn't seem to make much sense!

I agree, but do you think that if those nuts/bolts whatever were even slightly rotated as they are in most reference images that they would still fit within the recess?

With all due respect to Otters work, I'd rather look at the images provided.

It is indeed a good question thats why I asked it, I certainly don't have the answer. But it doesn't escape the fact that all the images seem to show them to be completely out of alignment with the 'spokes'.

    I have faith in you.

Well. I'm glad she doesn't have any nuts. Castlelated or other...

There's the joy of the internet for you.

Well hell, I still don't know how those bolts turn, you'll have to figure that one out on your own. The recess isn't really any larger and I don't even think the bolts are smaller either, but I made them a little smaller. The teeth were off as far as how they line up with the spokes though. The teeth are the key to how those bolts are spaced. Aside from the top three bolts, they are in pair that line up with the teeth, as you can see. And, just for you GFR, I rotated those bolts just how they are in the reference photo I was using The only other change I made is the proportions of the lip around the spoke area.

This is as good as it's going to get-

I don't know about that grease fitting, somehow I suspect that's a restoration addition. Does anyone know for sure?

Good! I feel much better now.

How 'bout doing the same to more than one of the nuts in the centre?

    I'll get my coat.

Yes, I believe that it is.

I've begun a new AFV project (obviously not a MKIV) feel free to smash it with the pedant hammer when I post it later today.

I've got my 9 pound hammer ready

I'll think about changing those hub bolts too. I don't have the castle part defined too good.

At this rate, your grand-kids might finish the profile!

Very nice work, though. Probably better-looking than the real deal.

Almost certainly none of this nice detail will be visible at final reproduction size
