Thread: Pz. MK IV L/70

I hate me too This is a REAL MESS! I'm starting to think doing a profile this BIG will just never happen. Plus, it's really hard coordinating the overall look of the parts. Some areas have way too much contrast but the way I have everything set up it's nearly impossible to make selective adjustments. The entire lower chassis is over 10,000 pixels across
I've gotten this far and I'm starting to think there's a HUGE difference between doing individual wheels this size and trying to do a whole tank!!!!

Why are you profiling it so huge??? My original was only 3000 pix wide in AI format! Little wonder you're so daunted......

Because 3000 px won't cut this sort of detail. Doing it small wouldn't be special. If it's not going to be special, is it worth doing?

You know how many hoops you need to jump through to do what I do in Illustrator? You're insane I have yet to see the realistic quality you can get in Photoshop with Illustrator. It's close but not quite. And then there's speed, I don't have to think of what I'm doing in PS, it's all muscle memory, it just flows out of my fingertips. I know very little escpect for flat color fills in Illustrator. Maybe a better man could, but not me. And then there is still the size issue. Unless you're using some kind of shading filter, you'll still have scaling issues. What I do could never be done with automatic application techniques. I fear the file would need to be every bit as big and it would be way less flexible.
I'd really like to see someone do it. So far no one here has done anything close.
Photoshop is still the one and only king where realism is concerned!!!!

I'm with BH, Photoshop over ill us traitor any day, we could re open the Mac PC war too whilst we are here, then move over to RLM colours then once we are really cooking do the PC10 debate?

John if I remember right and its been a while since I looked at a tank, the whole unit is anchored in between the 2 wheels then it has the leaf spring is anchored at one end?

    Re: Pz. MK IV L/70

Yep, it's got leaf springs between two (swing?) arms and little rubber bump stops or something like that, above the arms.
This shows how the parts go together-

See? Jester knows a thing or two
As far as arguments go, I'd just like to see a fully rendered realistic profile done in illustrator as good as what I'm doing or better. Then I'd want to know if it was as easy and as flexible as Photoshop. If those two things happen then I'd say there's a good argument to use Illustrator. Until then, there is no argument about it

Sorry, I'll have to disagree. You could project these on the side of the Empire State Building and there would be no loss of resolution because it is pure vector. Try that with PS! Admittedly they are WIP's, but I can see these out competing PS any day of the week. There is a reason why Illustrator is known as the King of Illustration and used by most major studios in the world. Simply put, it is for image creation, while PS is just a photo manipulation program capable of some rather astonishing results. Still...it's all raster stuff and no matter how large you work, the image starts to suffer once enlarged beyond the initial image size.

Cool. Let's do that. And then we can go break something.
