Hi BH!
Thank you! No this will not be another 104 thread. I will just post a few of Ju 88 but never as many as Supah in his thread.
Cheers, Simon
Why not? I like the 88 a lot better than the 104No this will not be another 104 thread![]()
FAST AND BULBOUS!
Thank you Heli for the kind words!
BH: I also like the Ju 88 much more as the 104.
I'm sure I will post some planes in future, but maybe many others will be published in a book. We will see.
Cheers,
Hi folks!
Any ideas about these colours?
Cheers, Simon
PS: It's a Ju 88 A-4/torp used in the Mediterranean
It surprises me that white would be used as a part of a cam scheme in Afrika, but that is obviously the case here. Compare the colour to the Balkenkreuz and they are obviously identical. The green and sand colour are almost a certainty, and I would think it to be (judging by the contrast) RLM74 though it could be RLM70. The sand colour does not appear to be RLM79, for it is far too light for that. My guess would be borrowed Italian paint stocks.
Why not considering RLM 74 over RLM 76 ? is the camo of a nightfighter?

Just my 2 cents: the 70 or 71 spray seems too opaque on your representation. Have you tried making it a bit transparent? I'd try the 70 with maybe 80 or 90% opacity.
I'd take this idea one step further.
The way I see it, it looks like 2 separate layers of paint have been applied, first a light (as in not much paint)fuzzy base coat, then a second heavier layer that only roughly approximates the one underneath it.
As for the actual question at hand, if I attempted to answer it i'm scared my head might explode. Sorry.
Hi folks!
I also asked at Luftwaffe Experten Message Board for help!
This is the current state of affairs: The Junkers Ju 88 A-4/torp was original stationed in Norway and was transferred in March 1944 via France to Mediterranean Sea. The plane was original painted in RLM 70/71 on the upper sides. At the final place the plane was first over painted in large arias of RLM 79 (maybe a little bit transparent) got waves of RLM 76 (or possible white). The final layer was a dark one (maybe RLM 70/71/80/…..)
This for sure is just an assumption. Without a colour photograph of that plane it’s impossible to be 100% sure.
PS: The drawings I made is just a help to find the colours. I know that the waves etc are not 100% like on the photograph. Also note that the black Balkenkreuz filling is visible at the lower side.
Cheers,
Peter: This was a Torpedo plane and not a Nightfighter! You will notice that a camo of RLM 74 over RLM 76 can't fit as the base colour on the upper sides is darker as the RLM 65 undersides.
