Killer model Skyraider! Have you tried lighting it from the underside? You'll get a cool search light effect![]()
Simon, you're lucky I have a Ju 88 with FuG 220 in 3D
I've lit my 3D Ju 88 C-6 from a similar angle as your profile. Hope it helps for the shadows of the aerial.
Also, I noted a slight light angle inconsistency between your stabiliser shadow and the wing's. Your stabliser apears to be lit from a lower angle. I've gone for a midway solution.
Check your e-mail for some MG 131 references.
Hope this helps!

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Hello Ronnie!
Thank you very much for the MG131 references. And for sure a great 3D model. At my profile the shadow of the FuG220 looks not far away frm what you have rendered.
Yes, maybe there are some small errors with the lights in my profiles. That's the problem if you do a 2D work looking like a 3D work. But I'm happy if I compare yours with mine that most parts fit well.
Cheers, Simon
PS: It seems your horizontal tail stabaliser has a sloping split to the fuselage (like the Bf109), but the Ju88 didn't have this. That's why maybe our shadows at this section are different.

One thing you discover when doing 3D profiles, is that many things aren't as they are usually drawn. The first thing is markings... I dare say over 90% of 2D profiles suffer from not enough distortion on the fuselage markings, appearing as a planar projection rather than something painted around a curved shape. Roundels in particular suffer from this.
Another typical thing is that almost all profiles are lit with a very low, yet neutral lighting. The "sun" angle represents late afternoon, yet the light colour is midday. As we like profiles like this, I also use a low light but colour correct it to be neutral.
Shadow casting is another thing, they rarely ever behave exactly as you originally expect. Not for instance the sharp light demarkation at the bottom of the fuselage, where it curves outside of the sunlight. This is often made way too soft out of fear to suggest a corner in the fuselage cross section.
This is indeed 3D rendered with an environment providing ambient lighting. An airplane in flight gets light from below as well and usually, at altitude, the bottom gets more light than the sides (and at very high altitude or over clouds, even more light than on the top!). So I don't see a problem here at all.
Anyway, given how Simon's profile matches my 3D render for highlights/shadows, I think he did a good job here!
There's no (wedge-like) split, please see attached! It's simply caused by the small gap between the fuselage and elevator and the fuselage curving away slightly from the elevator (while the elevator's rib is straight), exaggerated by the light angle.
With difference I meant the diagonal angle the shadow/light demarkation makes. It's too shallow on your stabiliser, compared to your wing. Or it's too straight (vertical) on your engine nacelle, depends how you look at it![]()

Hello Ronnie! Thank you again. It really makes me happy that my "feeling" for 2D is so good that I have captured the shape nearly the same as you on your 3D model.
Regarding your tail, I will send you some photographs! (but after weekend) I'm not really sure if your split is really correct.
Here the next preview. Fuselage and engine are now reworked. So just the MG131 is missing and for this one I have to do the FuG227 "Flensburg". So I hope that I can start with the camouflage tomorrow or later this night.
Cheers,
Hi folks!
So here it is - the hopefully final version of the Ju88G-1.
Have changed some lights and shadows, radar installation, tail wheel,....
Cheers, Simon
Looks superb mate!
It needs one minor addition (my own Ju 88s still lack this too!): curtains!
