Are you sure about the camo Dave?
I don't think an OAW DVa ever received a camo combo, only printed fabric.
The finalised result looks nonetheless, fabulous!

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Apperently not! (can't read that tiny inscription anyway!).
I got tricked by the weights table in OAW style...
According to DSA:
"Some machines in the range D.7075 - 7199/17 and D.7300 - 7349/17 used painted camo."![]()

This is the plane at NASM, Stropp. I'm getting the details from the restoration, including the logo going the wrong way, the weights table and all. I'll post more on it soon.
Unfortunately no one knows what the plane looked like before it was shipped to the US but the tail had the green/mauve camo on it. The 5 color wings that are on it now were from other planes. It's a real exception type of plane![]()
FAST AND BULBOUS!
OH NO, don't do that! Plus, I've been looking up and I know I've seen you and a lot of the other guys at Simmers up there.I think I'll give up on profiling now, I just cant jump this high.
I think the key is no matter how high that imaginary bar gets, just keep looking up
As far as details and what-not, it's done, at least this particular D.Va with it's anomalies. No weathering yet but this plane, at least the finished version with markings is a museum plane. I'll be adding more weathering to the war time versions.Beside the markings, how close to finished do you consider this to be?
There are still a lot of gray areas concerning Strop and it's colors and markings though, I want to work some of that stuff out.
OK Elephant, there aren't too many good photos of Stropp online, not sure why...but here are the important details-
Just in case you don't know, the restoration crew got some stuff wrong, were mislead by the great hoaxster, Rodney Gerard, and just plain decided not to follow some of the evidence. They did get some stuff right off the original WW1 era paint though, it's not all wrong.
But, since my first profile is this plane I'm trying to nail it down, including what they got wrong. The real trick is figuring out what it might have looked like.

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Thanks for the info Dave!
I have read about the flaws of the restoration proccess and surviving colors that were discarded and stuff...
Our little project with Graf and JFM of deriving a Johannisthal Albatros D.III for RoF, out of the default D.III OAW is well on track!
I can't wait to see the battle weathered ones!![]()

Here is the finial (I think) restored version of the plane-
(I almost forgot to darken those modern tires)
All I need is to work out some details for the pre-restoration...
***Edit: OOOPS, I forgot to put the OAW style crease along the lower edge of the upper cowling panels. See the museum photo above. TOO MANY LITTLE DETAILS!

FAST AND BULBOUS!
Do I have to say it again?
This is a masterpiece!
Thanks for the heads up on that little detail!
I guess we should follow the opposite path and get rid of it from the Johannisthal D.III we are working on...![]()
