    Hello Dave

Here is another example, since the first example was not clear enough.
What I mean, the textures of dead material is excellent in your illustrations.
But living material requires a different approach. I hope that this new example, gives more insight into what I mean. I hope my comments do not bother, I'm just trying to help.
I can not guarantee that this portrait seems real, but there is no reverence material that can be a good example.

    Regards,
    Martin

I was also going to draw a pilot for 1 of my profiles, like Dave did for his, but re-reading the Donnybrook Fair on all these pages -- and now the idea terrifies me...

    Re: People profiles???

Hi Martin, Thanks for the examples but I'm still not sure what exactly you mean.
The only differences is that your examples seem to be pointing out more fleshy or fatty details. More rounded and soft. Is that what you are getting at? I can see I might need more modeling around the eyelids but I was more interested in making the art a combination the photo and the the profile.

Perhaps you mean I should exaggerate the rounded folds around the eyes? I do have a LARGE hi res photo similar to the link above that shows MUCH more detail than I had. I'll look for places to make improvements, especially the skin around the eyes.
I'm still learning how to paint organically on computer. Plus, it's been YEARS since I painted a portrait!
I'll include some Blue Max highlights, I know someone mentioned that.

    Hi Dave,

I understand your intention "man and his machine". There you certainly succeeded. Indeed (what you wrote) is what I meant, but no gray gradient mixing the base flesh color. Look at my exaggerated example. But give the shadows (cool colors) and forms (rich warm colors), that brings the pilot to life. Then the man and his machine will be a real unity. But again it is not a criticism, because I find your work great.

    Re: People profiles???

Hey guys, thanks for all the help and comments. I've put off finishing this one for too long. I've looked through all the suggestions and I think I've gone as far as I'm prepared to go on revising the figure. How does the whole thing look now?

What about those trees? I felt it needed something else. Any good or not?
Next time, if there is a next time, I'll have a better idea of what to plan ahead for.

Simply outstanding! Can't comment on the trees as the watermark gets in the way but it's inclusion is understandable. Top marks though.
