Nice! Have you decided on a livery yet?

Yep, the livery will be the D&RGW 5771 at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Not sure yet whether I'll do an older active service livery variation (which seriously tempts me) or the current display paint.

This Krylon product is specifically a primer. After a moderate initial coat, it dried to a pretty smooth finish, and the matte surface has decent tooth. All my painting above this base are going to be airbrushed acrylics.

After six months on the shelf, I took this back to the workbench over the last few evenings. Drilling through a few remaining holes, installing wire grab bars and a few other surface details.

More detailing. Almost all of the major parts are glued.

The upper body shell is just about due for a new priming coat. The lower chassis is ready for airbrushing.

    Re: The Plastic Canvas

Yep, and a productive day today. All the needed surface details were glued, I had excellent weather and was able to spray a fresh primer coat. Then I airbrushed a light base coat of a golden yellow paint.

No photos yet, maybe some by next weekend.

    Pretty exciting!

    Re: The Plastic Canvas

Slow work on this the last couple of weeks. This being the first time I've done painting on a model with an airbrush, I feel rather qualified now to write a book titled "Don't Let This Happen To YOU!"

The quality of the job is a bit disappointing, but still I'm bound to consider the investment required to make an improvement. Pretty massive.

The colors work, mottled silver is on. I'll see how it looks after I get that single black stripe on (the black stripe will cover the top 1/4 of the silver band).

Two more shots with natural lighting, instead of the harsh bulb from the previous pics:

It's looking good! What will the finished scheme look like?
