    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

My main reference picture is this well-known one:

To me, the hood seems like the #2? As for the shiny part, I guess I should make it cleaner (), but it doesn't strike me as shiny. I might be wrong again, though.

I also played with these today:

We are looking at the same reference image, I guess that we just see things a little differently. And whilst we are agreeing to disagree BBD looks shinny to me as well, not chrome shinny but shinny nonetheless.

Your b/c old crow looks super tho, Its going to be a very tough act to follow.

I'm currently re-working mine so that I can finally complete my "Bottisham four" series that I started when I first joined SPS. I've just completed the other three.

The worst part is: I know you're right. I am a bit like a teenager who'll try 27 different excuses in the hope he won't have to do something (his homework or the dishes, typically).

Had the picture been taken at their airfield, I could still have argued that operational aircraft are never clean and always a little dirty at best, but the photo was taken in the US while the aircraft was being used for propaganda so it probably was cleaned up more...

OK, I'll make an effort and go clean up my bedroom, er, my Mustang.

I've been having great fun doing new stangs these days. One of my customers wants the earlier Allison models as well, so I'll be expanding the collection. Once I've done the various P-51/P-51A/Mk I/Mk II/A-36/etc., I'll only have the P-51H and possibly the lightweight prototypes left to do.

John is in the Canary Islands getting his butt toasted. By the time he gets back he'll be speaking Swahili or Watutsi or something he'll be so burnt.

Please don't ask me to make it more glossy, or I'll die.

Let me know what you think.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

@Joe, I will look into that. I have already done some modifications to it since then.

Does anybody have pictures of P-51C-11-NT Evalina, the one that was captured by the Japanese in Jan 45?

    All I have is this:
    Name: evalina cover display_443x600.jpg
Views: 639
Size: 31.2 KB

I believe there was an article by Henry Sakaida written about this a/c and the evaluation the IJAAF made of it, but I can't remember where.

I'd also like to find decent pictures of contemporary 26th FS P-51s, because I have found conflicting indications about their markings... If anybody knows a book or article I can look for...

Boy, I really have to stop drawing Stangs:

Lt Strawbridge's Evalina, before and after capture. I don't have correct reference for the rear part of the aircraft so I kept it simple.

@fritzie101: thanks for pointing out the whip antenna length. I've modified all of my drawings accordingly.
