    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

I'm converting the P-51B/C template to the Allison-engined versions and having difficulties doing so. Joe has given me good profile pictures (thanks again, Joe! )to use as reference and I'm getting closer:

The nose actually has a subtle shape that I'm slowly getting right. However, I'm still not happy with some of it. The lower curve conforms to the pictures I have and I think the problem is coming from the upper curve, near the air intake. I need to correct that. I think it's a bit too flat and screwing up the whole nose shape perception. Whaddya think?

I still have lots of work to do on this, but I'm interested in hearing what you guys have to say.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

The nose looks like it needs to be a little flatter?

Don't forget that the fuselage of the Allison engined Mustangs was about 4" (I'll have to check for sure) shorter in height than Merlin Mustangs. That also might account for the bottom of the cowling looking a little deep as well. The bottom edge of the belly scoop needs to be flatter as well.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

I'd like to see it with the shadows turned off around the top scoop.

I think that's were your problem lays. the shadows look really bumpy and inconsistent, especially at the bottom of the scoop where it adjoins the the top cowl.

I think you might want to adjust the bottom of the cowl where it meets the wing root, it looks to straight to me, the images that I have show it to have a shallow curve.

I've been trying to finish the P-51A nose with very little success:

Here's the requested file (somewhat late, granted...), GFR.

What do you mean exactly? As I'm trying to make this drawing as correct as I can, I'm interested in this comment as well.

I think this should be better.

I've made the fairing/wing transition somewhat smoother also. I suppose this is what you meant, GFR?

Does anyone have pictures of the shell casing ejection port on the underside of the wing? I haven't been able to find decent reference for that section, so the template still has the two ejection ports of the P-51B/C. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
