    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

The curve on the lower section of your cowl still looks to shallow/flat to me.

Dunno, if you have these, but they're the best that I have at hand.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Thanks for your feedback, GFR. I don't really know. The lower part of the engine cowl was modified several times, as more pictures came in.

The actual shape is mostly based on the picture sent by Joe and also on a good side shot of the nose that can be found in Squadron/Signal's Walk Around of Allison Mustangs.

This is how the nose looked initially:

IMO, it looked a bit too "chunky" and had something of a Spitfire look.

Based on several photos, but especially the ones mentioned above, here is the corrected version:

Looking at that photo of 41-37321 that you posted, it seems to me that the corrected version is right.

    Or am I missing something?

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Sorry...I dont think I have made myself clear enough, the shallow curve I'm talking about is the one just forward of the wing root.

Just to muddy the water a little further, I think its a combination of the front of the corrected one and the rear of the original that is closest to being "correct" FWIW.

Here's a very rough, very exaggerated and in no way representative to scale sketch, of what I'm actually talking about.

Of cause I could be entirely wrong!

It's not the highest resolution, but it shows them to pretty good effect. I'd strongly recommend searching the San Diego Air & Space Museum's entire Flikr photostream; they've got some good stuff there! (over 64,000 photos!)

By the way, the profile looks like it's really shaping up nicely. I guess that curve on the bottom of the cowling is harder to pin down than it looks!

Yeah...Sometimes I am just in awe of my talent. Very occasionally I reach Da Vinci like, line drawing greatness.

Could be my best work yet!

Unless your comments directed towards the Profile, then carry on...

An (almost) new one, just to show I'm not giving up on the Stang

Gentile's infamous Shangri-La. Maybe I'll depict the D version he used for touring in the States after his return.

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Mustangs are indeed difficult to give up on. I've just completed yet another re-working of mine.

You might want to reconsider the embossing of your rivets.

    NICE

I see what you mean Giant, those rivets look more raised than flush.
How are those rivets done Gamary? Are they done with embossing layer effects or built up with several layers?

That's one of my favorites from my impressionable childhood BTW!

    Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

B and C models had a different kind of bomb/drop tank shackle. There were stabilizers fixed to the top portion of the shackle instead of the ones at the bottom like on the D. The ports in the wing for the fuel lines were different as well, being closer to the shackle.

    Another picture

    Edit:
The wingtip lights are correct for the D but not the B/C. The earlier models had separate lights on top and bottom, placed about a foot from the wingtip.
Look closely at this picture and you can see the red port light right next to the insignia. Here's another picture.

    BTW, another Shangri-La picture!
