    Re: Spitfire

    Hi, grafikco,
Could you tell me where I can get hold of some Spitfire drawings, like yours that you posted here, for a MKVIII, IX, XIPR
    Thanks very much,
    Tony

Also notice the wing root (trailing edge) up to the dihedral. The sweep and wing meet at a point slightly lower than the belly. Arial is not vertical to the centre line, it angles back slightly, exhaust top cowl, lower edge is not at 90 to the horizontal centre line (fuse datum) and angles down to the nose. I don't think you would see this at this size. What size is the finished piece? really do hope this helps.

    Hi Gamary,

As you know I have been developing my spitfire for what must be 6 years and I can still pick fault with it compared to other peoples line drawings. That said, mine has not been constructed using any line art what so ever. I did it once that way and had to start over. I have been watching your progress with my lip firmly bitten, I don't consider myself to be either an expert or to be absolutely right on any artwork I produce, but I do get my artwork to a point where I can sit back and declare it "believable" in my opinion. I tend not to comment on peoples work these days, I am just another Joe who does a bit of drawing, that's the only connection I have with what I draw, so who am I to say what's right or wrong? I am however a big fan of your work and I love your style.

I would check the shape of your nose area from the firewall forward and also the shape of your vertical stabilizer and rudder.

Your spinner looks slightly over sized to me also.
I am not overly sure about the Volkes filter with the Vb airframe either, but I might be wrong on this point. I thought they were fitted to Vc's only.

Here is a link to my conclusion, I hope it helps.

And please feel free to totally disregard, it is after all your drawing.

    Re: Spitfire

Jesters: thanks for the kind words and especially the comments. The Spits are on the backburner for the moment, but I will try to double-check the drawing and see if I can improve them.

I've also used as little line art as possible, as I find it increasingly difficult to find good line art.

On the overall, I'm fairly satisfied with the shape of the Spit, but I'm sure there is space for improvement. As I said, I'll look into it when I get back to them.

As for the Mk Vb/Vokes combination, I do believe it exists:

This is the first picture I found from Google. Most of the publications I've seen mention Mk Vb (Trop).

As for the spinners, you might be right. I will have to check. (I've always had trouble identifying the different spinners of the Spitfire. I forget how many different kinds there are, but it's too many.)

    Re: Spitfire

Out of personal interest and since I couldn't sleep this night, I made a couple of Clostermann's Spits:

This is his the first Spit he flew, a Mk II from 61 OTU at Rednal in November 1942. I don't have any pictures. All I know is the type and code, from the book. As a result I showed it with "Mixed Grey" paint, no IFF aerials (presumably useless for an OTU) and some wear and tear. AFAIK OTUs had hand-me-down aircraft from operational squadron so these would have been obsolete and worn-out.

One of his Mk IXc from No 602 Squadron.

I'll be doing other ones as well later on.

    Re: Spitfire

Here's a question. I'm supposed to do a profile of this 313 Squadron Mk Vc but I am not certain whether it is a clipped or standard wing.

To me, that is a clipped wing, but the angle and quality are such that I wouldn't mind somebody confirming that. What do you think?

    Re: Spitfire

    Looks clipped.

I wouldn't consider it confirmed though.
